ECO Water was commissioned to design, supply and install a water recycling system for the ParksWide Nursery in the City of Whitehorse. Used irrigation and stormwater is harvested from the site, treated and then re-used throughout the nursery to irrigate the 100,000 plus plants grown on site per year. An annual reduction in potable water use of more than 45% has been achieved. This equates to treating and recycling on average 4,000,000 litres of water per year..

Spreading the ‘Water Wise’ message
Whitehorse Council’s ParksWide Nursery is spreading the ‘Water Wise’ message by installing a new water recycling and filtration system on site in Jolimont Road, Forest Hill.
ParksWide Nursery staff estimate that the new system, which collects all possible water from the site and reuses it for plant irrigation, will reduce mains water usage at the nursery by 80%.
All water from irrigation run off and stormwater drains on the site is collected in three large tanks with 39,000 litre holding capacity. The water is filtered through three stages to remove impurities so it can safely be used for irrigation.
Water quality is checked weekly by nursery staff to maintain the required pH and electrical conductivity levels.
